An IndiGo flight en route from New Delhi to Srinagar was hit by a hailstorm before landing safely at Srinagar Airport on Wednesday evening. The aircraft, carrying 227 passengers, encountered severe weather conditions while entering the Kashmir Valley.
The aircraft, identified as IndiGo flight 6E2142 (Registration: VT-IMD), was en route from Delhi to Srinagar when the pilot declared an emergency to Air Traffic Control. Videos filmed by passengers show panic spreading among those on board during the turbulence.
According to airport officials, the aircraft landed safely at 6:30 pm. All 227 passengers, and crew members were reportedly safe. Indigo declared the aircraft as Aircraft On Ground (AOG).
IndiGo issued a press statement regarding the incident. It stated, “IndiGo flight 6E 2142 operating from Delhi to Srinagar encountered sudden hailstorm en route. The flight and cabin crew followed established protocol and the aircraft landed safely in Srinagar. The airport team attended to the customers after arrival of the aircraft, prioritizing their wellbeing and comfort. The aircraft will be released post necessary inspection and maintenance.”

The Delhi airport has also issued an advisory while alerting that flight operations could be impacted.
“Due to inclement weather conditions and thunderstorms in Delhi, flight operations may get impacted at Delhi Airport. Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” the advisory stated.
