In a deeply troubling turn of events in Rohtak district, Haryana, a young farmer in the village of Dobh took his own life after being tormented by his wife and her lover. The young man’s name was Magan and he left behind poignant video messages that revealed a dark story of deception, emotional abuse, extortion, and financial exploitation.
Magan lived a simple and honest life. He married his wife, Divya, and lived with her for about a year and a half when he received a shocking revelation that Divya had a husband and a child. Instead of pursuing legal procedures, Magan chose to take the high road by paying Divya’s first husband to pursue a legal divorce so that he could marry Divya.
However, the high road did not lead to calm waters. Magan eventually discovered that Divya was having an affair with a police officer named Deepak, who is stationed in Sambhaji Nagar, Aurangabad. In his final videos, Magan stated that Divya and Deepak had continued to harass and exploit him for money. He stated that Deepak had threatened him for Rs 5 lakh for a promotion, and used Divya to apply pressure.
“I sold wheat I had grown with my own hands and gave Rs 1.5 lakh,” Magan said. He also mentioned pawning his gold bangle on June 9 to raise Rs 2 lakh, which Divya allegedly transferred to Deepak’s account. But their demands continued to grow.
He claims they next ask him for another Rs 1.5 lakh and even threatened him if he didn’t do something criminal with his ancestral land. The final straw was that Divya allegedly sent him a video of her dancing intimately with Deepak. Magan claimed that immediately sent him into extreme depression.
On June 18, Magan recorded and posted two distressing video messages on social media. In them he specifically named Divya and Deepak and called for justice. He had addressed his adopted sister, the social worker Savita Arya and said: “Sister, when women weep we still hear them even when they are wrong. But for men, even when they are right we make them die without hearing. Please let us hear men also.”
