Union Minister of Road and Highways Nitin Gadkari, turns 68 today. Widely known as the “Highway Man of India”, Gadkari has been the driving force behind the notable transformation of India’s infrastructure.
There are various projects that have been launched under the leadership of Nitin Gadkari. Some of them are already open to the public, while others are in the construction phase.
Here are the 5 key Expressway projects initiated under Nitin Gadkari:
Delhi-Mumbai Expressway:
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, the longest greenfield expressway in India, is nearing completion, with 82% of the work already completed. According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s update to Parliament, 26 out of the total 53 project segments have been finished as of June 2024. The revised target for completion is now set for October 2025.
Delhi-Meerut Expressway:
Travel between Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Hapur is now much faster due to the Delhi Meerut Expressway. Now, the commute between Delhi and Meerut can be done in just 45 minutes.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway:
The length of this expressway is 210 kilometers. This expressway will boost connectivity in the region. It will reduce travel time from six hours to 2 hours. Once operational, it will also boost tourism and make travel easier for commuters.
Dwarka Expressway:
This expressway is the third connecting route between the national capital and Gurugram. The expressway is a 16-lane, access-controlled highway that stretches from Shiv Murti in Delhi to Kherki Daula in Gurugram. Of its total length, 18.9 kilometers lie within Gurugram, while the remaining 10.1 kilometers are located in Delhi.
Urban Extension Road II:
Out of the 75.71 km UER-II, 54.21 km is within Delhi, while the other 21.50 km is in Haryana. Starting at NH-44 in Alipur, the expressway passes through Bawana Industrial Area, Rohini, Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka and finishes next to Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway on NH-48 near Mahipalpur, completing a semi-circle on the west.
