IMD Weather Alert: Dense Fog And Cold Wave Grip North India, Rainfall Expected In Jammu-Kashmir

IMD Weather Update: North India has been reeling under severe cold wave conditions since December and January seems to make no difference. The cold wave is particularly intense in states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted chilling temperatures in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh today. The conditions are also expected to be severe in Madhya Pradesh starting January 2.

Rain/Snowfall Alert

According to IMD, two fresh western Disturbances are likely to bring light isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan region till January 3. Additionally, scattered to
fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall is also expected over the region from January 4 to 6.

Under its influence, northern states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Bal tistan, and Muzaffarabad will also receive heavy rainfall/snowfall on the 5th of January, 2025.

IMD Issues Fog Alert

According to IMD’s latest update and data, dense fog conditions are expected to halt daily activities during late night and early morning hours in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim till January 3, 2025.

Dense Fog conditions are also expected to impact vehicular movement in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till the 6th of January.

Weather Forecast For Delhi

The city experienced its 3rd consecutive day of cold wave conditions on New Year Day. According to the India Meteorological Department, there has been a significant fall in minimum temperature up to 02°C over the national capital during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded in the range of 15 to 18°C and 6 to 8°C respectively.

Smog/shallow and moderate fog is likely to remain in most of the areas in Delhi in the morning, IMD said. Additionally, the weather will remain partly cloudy with predominant surface wind blowing from the northwest direction at a speed of less than 4 kmph during dawn.
