IMD Weather Forecast Flags Heat Wave Risk In North India, Hot & Humid Spell For South

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged a significant heatwave risk in North India for the 2025 hot weather season (April to June), with above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures expected over most parts of the country except some isolated regions.

The upcoming weather conditions in India will bring diverse temperature ranges starting with Northwest India and Gujarat where observers expect moderate temperature changes. Most areas of the nation will encounter unchanging maximum temperatures but Saurashtra & Kutch coupled with West Rajasthan and North India have specific regions that face heat waves and severe heat wave conditions.

Multiple southwestern states together with various sections of southern India will experience both heat and high humidity. Recent weather patterns in Delhi-NCR indicate maximum temperatures are easing off slightly as minimums experience moderate growth under normal weather conditions with transparent skies and relaxed surface winds.

Temperature Forecast

1. No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over Northwest India during next 2 days and fall by 2-4°C for subsequent 5 days.

2. No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over Gujarat during next 4 days and fall by 2-4°C for subsequent 3 days.

Heat Wave, Warm Night And Hot & Humid Weather Warning

1. Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Saurashtra & Kutch on 29th and isolated heat wave conditions on 30th April.

2. Heat wave conditions are very likely in some parts of West Rajasthan on 29th & 30th April; in isolated pockets on 01st May; in isolated pockets over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan on 29th & 30th April.

3. Hot & humid weather is likely to prevail over Tamil nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe, Marathwada during 29th April-01st May; Gujarat state during 29thApril-01st May; Madhya Maharashtra on 30thApril & 01st May.

Past Weather In Delhi NCR

There has been a rise in minimum temperature up to 01 – 03°C and fall in maximum temperature up to 01 – 02°C over Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are in the range of 39 to 40°C and 23 to 24°C respectively.

The minimum and maximum temperatures were near normal over Delhi/NCR. Predominant surface wind from the southeast/east direction with wind speeds less than 20 kmph prevailed during the past 24 hours. Mainly clear sky conditions with wind speed less than 18 kmph from the east direction prevailed over the region in the forenoon today.
