IMD Weather Update: Delhi Chokes As AQI Hits Hazardous 500; Heavy Rain Warning For Southern States

The air quality in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram reached 'alarmingly high' levels, touching the 500-mark i.e. 'severe plus' category today morning. A dense layer of smog engulfed the National Capital Region (NCR) for the seventh consecutive day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning till November 20 over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. Additionally, isolated heavy rain is likely over Nicobar on November 22 and 23.

According to the latest information and data from IMD, light to moderate rainfall is also expected in many places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on November 20 and 21. IMD has also predicted isolated hailstorm activity over Assam and Meghalaya on November 20-21.

IMD Weather Update: Forecast & Warnings

IMD has predicted dense fog conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till November 23, and East Uttar Pradesh till November 19 in the night/morning hours. Dense fog conditions will likely persist during the night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh till Nov 20 and in Uttarakhand from Nov 20 to 23. Himachal Pradesh may also experience dense fog for the subsequent 24 hours till November 21.

Weather Systems

According to the latest weather update, cyclonic circulation is located over the Comorin area and neighbouring areas in lower tropospheric levels. Additionally, south Bangladesh and its neighbourhood may experience cyclonic circulation extending up to lower tropospheric levels.

Temperature Conditions And Forecast

There has been no major change in minimum temperature over most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. A gradual decline in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C is very likely to prevail over Central India during the next 5 days. No large change in minimum temperatures is very likely over northeast India during the next 2 days and a gradual rise by 2-3°C during the subsequent 3 days. However, a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C is expected over Maharashtra and Gujarat Region during the next 5
days

The National Capital experienced a slight decline in maximum temperatures during the past 24 hours. The air quality in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram reached ‘alarmingly high’ levels, touching the 500-mark i.e. ‘severe plus’ category today morning. A dense layer of smog engulfed the National Capital Region (NCR) for the seventh consecutive day.

AQI: Delhi’s Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, and several other places touched the 500-mark at 5 am on November 19, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported. Worst air quality was recorded in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (500), Dwarka sector-8 (498), Munka (500), North Campus (500), RK Puram (499), and Wazirpur (500) at 5 am.
