To celebrate International Women’s Day in a special way, Central Railways is operating a Vande Bharat Express with an all-women crew for the first time. The train, number 22223, travels from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai to Shirdi. The entire crew consisted of only women. This includes the loco pilot, assistant loco pilot, train manager, ticket examiners, and the on-board catering staff.
Swapnil Nila, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railways, said that they have also started this same initiative on goods trains, and they plan to continue this with other Vande Bharat trains in the future. She shared that Indian Railways has always worked to support and empower women, and this is a great step in that direction.
Central Railways also shared the historic moment on social media. They called it a “proud and historic moment” and celebrated the strength, hard work, and leadership of women in Indian Railways. The post shared that, for the first time ever, a Vande Bharat Express is being fully operated by an all-women crew on International Women’s Day. It mentioned that this is a proud moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of women in Indian Railways.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised women’s strength and contributions on International Women’s Day. In his message on social media, he talked about ‘Nari Shakti’ and how women are making a big difference in all areas of life. He also announced that his social media accounts would be taken over by women from different fields to highlight their achievements and show the world what women can do.
