Israel hits Iran’s Natanz nuclear site, raising fears of wider conflict

On Friday, Israel attacked Iran, aiming at its nuclear and military sites. This happened after US President Donald Trump warned that a big war could start in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation targeted the center of Iran’s nuclear program, including the Natanz atomic site and some nuclear scientists.

The operation against Iran will “continue as many days as it takes,” said Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

An Israeli security official said that Iran’s Chief of Staff, Mohammad Bagheri, was “likely eliminated.”

Iranian state media reported that some homes in Tehran were also hit, and several civilians, including women and children, were killed.

State TV said fire and smoke were seen at an important base of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. Explosions were also heard in Natanz, a city in central Iran.

Iranian media said the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, was also killed in the attacks.

Flights were stopped at Tehran’s main international airport, Imam Khomeini. Iraq also closed its airspace and stopped all flights at its airports, according to state media.

Israel announced a state of emergency and also closed its airspace. Defence Minister Israel Katz said that Iran might strike back after the operation.
