Jammu And Kashmir: IMD Forecasts Rain And Snowfall In Next 5 Days As Bandipora Sees Fresh Snow

Snow and winds were reported in the high mountain pass, the 'Razdan Top'. However, the 85 km long Bandipora road remains open for travel.

Jammu And Kashmir: Jammu and Kashmir is bracing for rain and more snowfall in the coming five days as two western disturbances are expected to approach the region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts.

Some regions of J&K are already witnessing a fresh spell of snowfall as an effect of these disturbances. Bandipora and its higher reaches turned into a picturesque white wonderland on Sunday, along with the border regions of Gurez, Dawar and Tulail. Snow and winds were reported in the high mountain pass, the ‘Razdan Top’. However, the 85 km long Bandipora road remains open for travel.

Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD Scientist, forecasts rain and snow in the next five days over the Western Himalayan Region, including Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand due to two western disturbances.

Additionally, rain is expected to lash northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Western UP, Delhi NCR, and North Rajasthan on 22nd and 23rd January. Dense fog will likely blanket Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh for the next two to three days.

Meanwhile, some tourists were spotted enjoying the chilled weather and snow in the Bhaderwah area of J&K.

As Jammu and Kashmir stay in the midst of ‘Chillai Kalan’, a 40-day period of extreme winter, Doda’s Bhalessa area turned into a winter paradise after receiving fresh spell of snow.

Amid intensified winter, IMD said that the temperature in Srinagar City was 4.1 degrees Celsius around 11:30 am on Sunday. The Met Body has however not yet issued any kind of warnings or alert for all the districts in the city.
