Maintaining a safe distance between boats can prevent the risk of collision, as stated in a statement here. It also emphasized ensuring the safety of fishing equipment.

INCOIS also urged people to completely avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.

The term ‘kallakkadal,’ meaning a sea that comes suddenly like a thief, was also explained.

INCOIS has explained that the swell surge occurs suddenly without any specific indications or warnings due to strong winds in the southern part of the Indian Ocean, which is why it is called “kallakkadal.”
