“I will take the decision about joining any other party by today evening. I will go to Bangalore and give my resignation to the party,” said Shettar while mentioning that the High command offered him Rajya Sabha membership but he denied.

Emphasising on step-by-step process to follow, the six-time MLA is all set to quit the saffron party after decades of alligience. On Sunday morning, the BJP veteran reached Sirisi in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka to tender his resignation as an MLA from Hubli-Dharwad Central Vidhan Sabha seat to the Speaker Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri.

Alleging humiliation and ignorance by the party, Jagadish Shettar stated that , “How the BJP leaders treated me in the last few days is nothing but a humiliation. I was ill treated by the party members which forced me to announce my resignation. Some leaders in the state are misusing the BJP system.”

Shettar’s statement comes in response to the party leadership’s advice that he should drop his name from the list for the upcoming elections to give chance to fresh candidates, which left after the loyalist upset who ended up giving an ultimatum to leave BJP after decades of alligience.

The mass exodus of BJP’s Karnataka unit

The ruling BJP-led dispensation in Karnataka has faced back-to-back setbacks in the past week after a number of party members including former Deputy CM Laxman Savadi left the party.

This comes less than a month ahead of the Karnataka Assembly polls and the series of members quitting party started as soon as the BJP released its lists of candidates for the elections.

The list has certainly upset many leaders; some of which decided to join Congress such as Laxman Savadi.
