On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the date for the opening of the Kedarnath temple gates was decided in the presence of Kedarnath’s Rawal Bhimashankar Ling. Based on the calculations of the Panchang by the Acharya, the date and time for the temple’s opening were announced.
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Ashutosh, Kedarnath Temple, will open its doors on May 2nd at 7 am in an auspicious time. The date for the opening of Baba Kedarnath’s doors was announced on the holy occasion of Mahashivratri.
On the occasion of Mahashivaratri today, the date for the opening of the Kedarnath Temple doors was decided at the Omkareshwar Temple, in the presence of Kedarnath’s Rawal, Bhimashankar Ling. The date and time for the temple’s doors to open were announced according to the Panchang calculation by the Acharya.
Rawal Bhimashankar Ling had also arrived in Ukhimath for this event. Priests Shiv Shankar Ling, Bagesh Ling, and Gangadhar Ling mentioned that the prayers at Omkareshwar Temple started at 6 AM. The first offerings of food (Bal Bhog) and the grand offering (Mahabhog) were made to Baba Kedarnath, followed by the Aarti. Afterward, in the presence of Rawal Bhimashankar Ling, it was officially announced that the doors of Kedarnath Temple would open on May 2nd.
The Kedarnath Temple, located at the foot of the beautiful Himalayas, is closed for six months in winter when the area is covered with snow. Devotees can only visit the temple during the summer months when it opens.
