The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Kolkata and multiple districts in South Bengal. Additionally, the IMD has forecast heavy rain along with gusty winds in these regions.
The projected wind speed will range between 30-40 kmph in Kolkata, East Medinipur, and South 24 Parganas. Meteorologists predict that the prevailing weather conditions will persist until Sunday, but a transition is expected to begin on Monday. The weather department has warned of potential disruptions over the weekend due to this period of rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department forecasts a mix of sunshine, moderate rain, and thunderstorms in Kolkata and its neighboring areas over the next two days. The cooling effect of the showers will provide temporary relief from the warmth but may also lead to localized flooding and travel disruptions. Kolkata residents can expect temperatures to range from a low of 19 degrees Celsius on February 22 to a high of 29 degrees Celsius.
Gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph, along with heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and hail, are expected to impact East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Jhargram, West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, and Nadia.
The forecast indicates that February 23 will follow a similar pattern, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and strong winds with gusts of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, will impact East Midnapore, West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas on February 24. Minor rainfall is expected across South Bengal districts during this period.
Fresh reports suggest that rainfall intensity will decrease toward February 24 before the skies clear. South Bengal districts will experience only a slight drop in temperature, while the region is expected to remain mostly dry until the end of February. However, occasional cloudy periods will persist in some areas.
