A man-eating leopard, suspected of attacking a farmer in Udaipur’s Kamol village, was found dead on Friday, according to forest officials. The body of the leopard, discovered near the house of the attacked farmer, Devaram, bore injury marks on its neck and a significant wound on its face, indicating it may have been struck with a sharp weapon or an axe.
Attack On Farmer Leads To Investigation
The incident unfolded early Friday morning under the jurisdiction of the Sayra police station, located about 20 kilometers from Gogunda. Reports state that the leopard initially entered Devaram’s home and attacked his cows before turning its aggression toward the 55-year-old farmer. After Devaram was injured, the leopard fled into the nearby forest, pursued by locals armed with weapons.
Devaram was promptly transported to a nearby health center and later referred to MB Hospital in Udaipur. While his condition is now stable, he remains in shock and is unable to speak due to fear.
Local Fears And Forest Department Response
Officials suspect that locals may have killed the leopard, although this is still under investigation. In response to the leopard’s recent attacks, which have claimed the lives of around eight people in the Gogunda area, shoot-at-sight orders have been issued.
For the past month, the forest department has conducted extensive searches in the Gogunda and Jhadol areas, employing about 300 personnel and high-tech equipment in the hunt for the man-eater. Despite their efforts, the elusive leopard had not been captured prior to this incident.
