In India, people require several documents for everyday tasks. An individual needs to have an Aadhaar card along with a PAN card, passport, driving license, and ration card as essential documents. The PAN and Aadhaar cards hold exceptional importance among all required documents. The lack of a PAN card prevents you from performing banking operations and submitting income tax returns. All users of PAN cards must follow specific rules which determine the proper usage of this document.
It is vital to link your PAN card with your Aadhaar card. Your PAN card will become inactive, after which you won’t be able to perform banking transactions or file tax returns. Recently, the Central Board of Direct Taxes issued a notification stating that anyone who obtained their PAN card using an Aadhaar enrollment ID before October 1, 2024, must now provide their Aadhaar number. The deadline for this is December 31, 2025. These PAN cardholders are required to submit their Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department by this date.
How You Can Link PAN To Aadhaar?
If your PAN card was issued using an enrollment ID during this period or you haven’t linked your PAN with Aadhaar yet, you can do it by visiting the official site of Income Tax- www.incometax.gov.in. From there you can select the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option, enter your Aadhaar and PAN numbers, and then verify it using an OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
