The district collectors of Coimbatore along with Tiruppur ordered the shutdown of Foreign Liquor (FL) I, bars (FL2), star hotels and restaurants (FL3), and imported liquor vendors (FL11) outlets operated by Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (Tasmac) during April 10, 2025 Mahavir Jayanti celebrations. The authorities warned that they will punish anyone found illegally selling alcohol throughout the day.
Dry days become mandatory for the state government during annual holidays, religious festivals and election periods together with major ceremonial events. During April 6 to 14 of this year Maharashtra and Karnataka (Bengaluru) along with Delhi have established dry days to celebrate Ram Navami and Mahavir Jayanti and Ambedkar Jayanti.
