In a latest twist in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, police have arrested a property dealer, Silome James, on Saturday. The police team is investigating the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore man who was killed while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya. The accused was arrested in connection with allegedly concealing evidence. A security guard was also detained for questioning. The total number of people arrested in the case has become seven, including his wife Sonam and the man she was allegedly in a relationship with, Raj Kushwaha, as well as the three hit men whom Sonam took help to murder Raja.
Who Is Silome James?
James was arrested on Saturday evening while he was attempting to escape to Bhopal from the Bhonrasa toll-gate in Dewas district. “He is a property dealer and lessee of a building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore where Sonam had stayed and kept the jewellery and other items she took with her after the incident,” PTI quoted East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem as saying. James rented the flat to co-accused Vishal Chauhan for ₹17,000 per month, the officer told reporters on June 13.
What All Things Did Silome Hide?
Silome James is supposed to have helped Sonam hide a box consisting of jewellery, a laptop and possibly a weapon belonging to her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha. The box was later annihilated, according to police.
According to ANI report, Cops nabbed a watchman and carpenter, Ahirwar as another accused from his native village in Ashok Nagar district on Sunday. He was reportedly employed at the Indore flat where Sonam and a key accused in the murder had stayed after escaping Meghalaya.
“Shillong police came to Shadora today. They took a person named Balvir Ahirwar with them to Indore for questioning. According to the preliminary investigation, the flat in which Sonam Raghuvanshi stayed after the murder, Balvir Ahirwar was working there as a watchman and a carpenter,” Ashoknagar SP Vineet Kumar Jain said as per ANI.
The Story
Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, and the three alleged assailants arrested earlier this month are in judicial custody in Meghalaya while the case is currently being investigated by an SIT formed by the Meghalaya Police. Raja was murdered at the Wei Sawdong falls in Sohra on May 23 while on his honeymoon with Sonam. After both of them were reported missing, a large search operation was launched. The case turned into a murder investigation when Raja’s body was found in a gorge on June 2. It took a dramatic turn on June 7, when Sonam, who had also been missing, was found in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
