There is a possibility that the Surat Sessions Court may give its verdict anytime between 11 am to 3 pm today. During this, the counsel for the complainant also presented his arguments after which ADJ Robin Paul Mogeran reserved the decision.

New allegations

BJP MLA Purnesh Modi, the complainant in the case, made fresh allegations. He had said that efforts are being made on behalf of Rahul Gandhi to put pressure on the court. He reaches here with the Chief Ministers of three different states of the country for the hearing. Let us tell you that on March 23, the CJM court of Surat convicted Rahul Gandhi in the Modi surname defamation case and sentenced him to 2 years. Rahul Gandhi’s parliament came to an end on 24 March. Recently, he had to vacate the Tughlaq Lane bungalow he got as an MP.

Post court decision impact:

If the Surat Sessions Court stays Rahul’s sentence in the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign related to the Modi surname comment case, then the way for his parliamentary reinstatement will open. He will also be able to contest the next year’s Lok Sabha elections, but if he does not get relief from the court, he will have to approach the High Court.
