A Look Back At Their First Meeting
People know a lot about their business ventures and philanthropic works, however, a less is known about their personal lives and love story. Interestingly, their marriage was love cum arrange marriage. It is said that Nita was left shocked during her first meeting with Mukesh.
While Nita is now a daughter-in-law of the richest family, she came from a middle-class background and upbringing. She first met Mukesh at Dhirubhai Ambani’s house. She was shocked when Mukesh opened the door. Nita was stunned to see Mukesh in a white shirt and black pants, looking very simple. She couldn’t believe her eyes, as he looked so simple than what she had imagined about him as a son of the richest man.
This was about how Nita and Mukesh met, but how Dhirubhai and his wife reacted seeing Nita is also interesting. It is reported that they had accepted Nita as their daughter-in-law at first sight. When Nita was 20 years old, she was selected for a performance at a cultural program during Navratri at Mumbai’s Birla Matoshree. Mukesh’s parents had attended the event, where they spotted Nita and liked her.
After cultural event, Dhirubai called Nita and her father to his office. During their interaction, he asked Nita a lot of questions. He then asked Nita if she would like to meet his son, Mukesh. Nita agreed to meet Mukesh and one day went to their house. Mukesh opened the door and greeted Nita in a simplest manner saying: “Hi! I am Mukesh.” She was taken aback with his greeting and look.
The couple then met for some time and decided to marry on 8th March 1985.
