A covid-19 resurgence is occurring in Southeast Asia, starting in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and others across the region. According to the notifications in Covid-19 case cases in the area, most of the covid resurgence is being spread among Omicron variant JN.1, and JN.1 family of variants. Singapore observed over 14,000 + cases in early May of this year, with similar respikes in Hong Kong and Thailand.

ET Health World is reporting a recent spike in Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and Thailand, with medical experts quoted in the report believing that it may happen in India too, because the antibodies to combat the infection are waning. There is a small uptick in India in places like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra.

Danger signs abound as some celebs are coming back positive for COVID-19. Along with this, social media is buzzing with rumors around Australian cricket star Travis Head being ruled out from IPL for the infection.
Even though Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori did attest that Head had COVID, HT can’t confirm the claim that he’s out of the whole remaining tournament period. Meanwhile 90s Bollywood star Shilpa Shirodkar confirmed in a statement on Monday that she had contracted the virus.
Is This Variant More Deadly?
Right now, nothing indicates that the new COVID-19 variant is more transmissible or deadly, but precautions need to be taken against it, and to evade the return of the destruction the disease caused in 2020-2021ariant of interest’ by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in December 2023. It is a descendent of the Omicron BA.2.86 variant.
