NIA Raids: Cracking whip against the ISIS supporters, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday morning conducted raids at around 60 locations across Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu in two separate blast cases, according to sources.

The searches are being conducted in connection with last year’s blasts in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore and Karnataka’s Mangaluru, which occurred on October 23, 2022, and November 19, 2022, respectively, according to sources in the anti-terror probe agency. According to sources, nearly five dozen locations in three states were raided at the same time, including Kodungaiyur in Tamil Nadu and Mannadi in Kerala.

Raids in two blast cases in all three states

Sources said the NIA on Wednesday morning launched raids at several places as part of its probe into two separate blast cases in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu against ISIS sympathizers. According to sources in the probe agency, the searches are being conducted in connection with last year’s bomb blasts in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Mangaluru in Karnataka, which took place on October 23, 2022 and November 19, 2022.

Sources said simultaneous raids were conducted at about five dozen locations in the three states, including Kodungayur in Tamil Nadu and Mannadi in Kerala. On October 27 last year, the NIA took over the probe into the October 23 last year bomb blast in a car packed with explosives in front of the Kottai Easwaran temple in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The 11 accused persons were arrested by the anti-terror agency in the first case, which Tamil Nadu Police had initially registered a complaint on October 23 last year.

The NIA began its investigation in accordance with the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the investigating officers then questioned the main accused Shariq, after the state police discovered his links to the Islamic State (IS) during their investigation. It also discovered that he radicalised his classmates, Syed Yasin and Muneer Ahmed, and introduced them to IS.
