Onion Prices Skyrocket Again Leaving Customers In Distress, Check Rates In Delhi, Mumbai And Other Cities

Onions price has skyrocketed across the country with the vegetable being sold in a range of Rs 80 per kilogram.

The surge in onion price has left citizens teary-eyed and in distress. The price of onions has risen from Rs 40-60 kg to Rs 70-80 kg at the wholesale markets. Some regions have reported price as high as Rs 80 per kg as of November 8, 2024. The rise in price has left the consumers in distress as they struggle to adjust it in their kitchen needs.

Consumers In Distress

Speaking to ANI, a seller at a market in Delhi said that there has been a reduction in sales due to the price hike but still people are buying it and it is an important part of food habits in India. “The price of onions has risen from Rs 60 to Rs 70 per kilo. We source it from the mandi so the prices we receive from there affect the prices on which we sell it,” added the seller.

A Buyer, Faiza also shared her discomfort over the price hike of onions and mentioned that she purchased onions at Rs 70 per kilo. She appealed the government to reduce the prices of vegetables that are eaten every day. “The price of onions has shot up even though it should have come down according to the season. I purchased onions at 70 Rs per kilo. It has affected food-eating habits in the household, added Faiza.

Price Hike In Mumbai

The price of onions in Delhi is around Rs 80 per kilogram as of November 8, 2024. Not just in the national capital, but the price of Onion has increased in other states too.

Dr Khan, a buyer in Mumbai told ANI about the price rise and said, “The price of onions and garlic has gone up manifold. It has doubled. This has also affected the budget of the household. I purchased 5 kilos of onion for 360 Rs.”

Another buyer, Akash also stressed about surge in onion price. He is hopeful that one price will also come down like Sensex hike and fall. “Prices of onions have hiked up. The price of onions has risen from 40-60 Rs per kilo to 70-80 Rs per kilo. But like Sensex hike and fall, the onion price will also come down,” said Akash.

A seller in the market, Kishore pointed out at inflation for the hike in onion price. “The price of onions has hiked because of inflation. The price has risen 60 to 70-75, but it is a staple vegetable so consumers are coming and purchasing it,” said Kishore.

Price In Other Cities

Onions price has skyrocketed across the country with the vegetable being sold in a range of Rs 80 per kilogram.

According to One India data, Onion price reported from different cities of the country are: Kolkata (Rs 70/kg), Vijayawada (Rs 80), Patna (Rs 70), Kochi (Rs 75), Jaipur (Rs 70), Hyderabad (Rs 80), Trivandrum (Rs 75), Bhubaneswar (Rs 70).
