It came as a major relief for the former MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh after a court accepted a closure report of the Delhi Police, seeking to cancel a case filed by a wrestler accusing Singh when she was a minor.
According to PTI, the Additional Sessions Judge Gomti Manocha accepted the cancellation.
Wrestler said she was satisfied with police probe
The report cited that during an in-chamber proceeding, the ‘minor’ wrestler told the judge who was holding the court that she had no objection over the closure report as she was satisfied with the probe of the Delhi police.
POCSO case dropped after father’s retraction
The police had dropped the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case against Singh after the “minor” wrestler’s father made a claim midway through the investigation that she had made a false complaint of sexual harassment against Singh.
Following the retraction of the victim’s statement, Predecessor Special POCSO Judge Chhavi Kapoor deferred the final order several times.
Complainant did not challenge the filed cancellation report
Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava earlier informed the media that both the complainant and her father had appeared before the court, confirming their satisfaction with the police investigation and not challenging the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police.
The Delhi Police had filed the cancellation report on June 15, 2023, in the POCSO case against Singh. On July 4, 2023, the Patiala House Court issued a notice to the complainant and her father. The 500-page report was filed under the POCSO Act.
