Pollution In Delhi Declines: IMD Raises Cyclone Alert For East And South India

In eastern India the Cyclone Dana has caused heavy rain and flood in coastal area of West Bengal.

The air quality in Delhi marginally eased on Friday from ‘very poor’ to the ‘poor’ category on the IMD’s air quality index. We can expect almost cloudless weather and a temperature of about 34°C.

In eastern India the Cyclone Dana has caused heavy rain and flood in coastal area of West Bengal. Severe impacts were predicted in East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas; however, no cases of heavy harm have been reported. Several south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, received continuous rainfall from Thursday night and Weather bureau has predicted more down pour, and may stop in the evening.

Its effect was even witnessed in Jharkhand where moderate to heavy rain occurred over the Kolhan’s West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and East Singhbhum districts. Responding to IMD’s ‘Orange Alert’ issued for Kolhan area, all schools in these districts were remained closed on October 25 as a measure of precaution.

Odisha and West Bengal were affected with rain and gusty winds when Cyclone Dana hit the Province uprooting trees and even power lines. Nevertheless, there were few or negligible effects on the infrastructures; flight and rail services returned to normal. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the state achieved the successful “zero human casualties” during the cyclone due to the active preparations. Biju Patnaik International Airport was functional as usual by 9 in the morning of Friday and the East Coast Railway resumed services as most of their train services were functional barring those that were earlier called off.

The IMD has also issued an “Orange Alert” for several districts in Kerala due to cyclonic activity in the Arabian Sea off the southern part of this state. Kerala districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad will receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall till October 27. Moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds may affect other parts of the state as well.

The IMD requests people in the areas prone to the calamity to be cautious and stay updated on weather alerts as states prepare for further developments associated with Cyclone Dana’s residual effects.
