Jalandhar: Incessant rains have resulted in overflowing of rivers in various parts of India. Punjab has also been witnessing the wrath of uncontrolled water inflow that entered residential areas. The inconvenience caused due to abrupt rising levels of water has claimed the live of an individual who was unable to access medical facilities in time.
Jalandhar’s Gidarpindi village has been severely affected by the wrath of flooding. An elderly man identified as 85-year-old Sohan Singh was among the ones who experienced its consequences.
As the water breached the flood mark, he was unable to access medical facilities or even an ambulance. As a result, Sohan Singh tragically lost his life. Following his death, the cremation ground was also submerged, denying him a proper cremation. The family had to perform his last rites on an empty plot of land by the roadside.

The road near Lohia’s place in Jalandhar city is currently submerged, with the funeral pyre of the 85-year-old Sohan Singh being performed there. The lack of administrative services contributed to the complete absence of assistance for Sohan Singh.
Meanwhile, his grandson, Maninder Singh explained that his grandfather fell ill, and due to the flooding, their communication with the outside world was cut off. Maninder Singh also mentioned that they were unable to access an ambulance and were couldn’t reach any hospital.
Unable to find dry cremation ground
Consequently, they couldn’t take his grandfather to the hospital, which ultimately led to his unfortunate demise. The devastation caused by the floods didn’t stop there. Even after Sohan Singh’s death, the family couldn’t find a dry cremation ground. Both cremation grounds in the village were completely submerged, forcing them to perform the last rites on the roadside.
