India still promotes diplomacy for Russia-Ukraine issue, says ‘Not an era for war’

Bengaluru: The Group of 20 (G20) host India Wednesday reiterated its take on war-hit Ukraine saying that it is not an era of war but diplomacy, in a meeting held near the southern city of Bengaluru.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, “Today’s era is not for war. Democracy, dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward.” Earlier in the day, the union minister welcomed the delegates to the meeting that will on Saturday.

As per AL Jazeera, Finance ministers and central bank chiefs from G20 nations will join the meeting on Friday.

This meeting marks a major event under India’s G20 presidency. However, the meeting is likely to be around Ukraine-Russia war, which is about to complete on year anniversary on this Friday.

Looking at the India’s stand on the war, it seems that the nation managed to keep a nuetral stance at the issue. At some point, India also declined to blame Russia for its invasion, which caused a chaos in Ukraine.

For decades, Russia has been India’s biggest suppliers of military equipment while also being a fourth-biggest market for South Asia coutries for exporting pharmaceutical products.

A central bank deputy governor from one of the attending countries on condition of anonymity told Al Jazeera that there are many who are willing to speak on the issue of Russia-Ukraine war. He added that Russia itself wants to discuss the economic impact of sanctions.
