‘Same Thing Should Go Viral’: Goa GMC CMO Demands Public Apology From Minister, Warns To Go On Strike

Goa Health Minister Vishawajit Rane on Monday, had apologised to GMCH’s Chief Medical Officer. The health minister wrote on social media that he regretted the manner in which he addressed the situation.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Rudresh Kuttikar has dismissed the apology issued on Monday by State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. He has demanded that Rane must issue public apology “immediately” in the same casualty department where he was berated during the surprise inspection. The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) doctors have further warned to go on strike if the minister fails to apologise.

“We demand that he (Rane) apologise publicly, and the minister should come to the casualty department and apologise. If our demand is not met, we may go on strike. The incident on June 7 was when someone’s relative came asking for a B12 injection. It was not an emergency injection. We said you have to go to the OPD,” said the CMO.

Kuttikar labelled the minister’s apology as a “studio apology” and firmly stated that the “apology” video should go viral as his humiliation went viral. He reiterated that he wants everyone to know about Rane’s apology.

“I have seen the video (of the minister apologising), but it is a studio apology. All doctors demand that an apology should happen where the incident happened. It should happen in front of people. Like the video of my humiliation went viral. The same thing should go viral because I was completely humiliated that day. I want every person to know about his apology,” added Kuttikar.

Goa Health Minister Issues Apology

Notably, Goa Health Minister Vishawajit Rane on Monday, had apologised to GMCH’s Chief Medical Officer. The health minister wrote on social media that he regretted the manner in which he addressed the situation. He said the issue is being unnecessarily politicised as the opposition parties are demanding his immediate dismissal.

He wrote on X, “During the broadcast with Prudent Media last night, I openly extended my heartfelt apology to Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar for the harsh words spoken by me during my visit to GMC. In the heat of the moment, my emotions overtook my expression, and I deeply regret the manner in which I addressed the situation. It was never my intention to undermine or disrespect the dignity of any medical professional.”

“Doctors hold a sacred and noble position in our society. They work tirelessly to heal, to comfort, and to save lives. I hold the highest respect for their contribution to our state. While I may have erred in my communication, my intent was always to ensure that no patient is denied timely care and that our public health system remains responsive and compassionate,” his post added.
