SC Dismisses Plea Of SBI Seeking Extension To Disclose Electoral Bond Details

However, the apex court has also instructed the ECI to publicise the information which will be shared by the ECI and to put it on its official website so that the information is available in the public domain.

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed State Bank of India’s (SBI) plea of seeking more time till June 30 to disclose the electoral bond donor details to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 6. The apex court directed the SBI to disclose all the details to the ECI till the business hours of March 12.

However, the apex court has also instructed the ECI to publicize the information that will be shared by the SBI and to put it on its official website so that the information is available in the public domain.

A five-judge bench comprising justice Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra asked SBI what action have they taken in the past 26 days? The application is silent on that.

Initially, at the start of the hearing, the bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud stated that the court had asked SBI to conduct a “plain disclosure”.

The five-judge bench underlined that in order to fulfill the court’s direction, SBI had to just open the sealed covers, collate details, and hand over the information to the election commission.

In the application, the SBI has sought more time till June 30 to disclose all the details of the electoral bonds enchased by the political parties before the scheme was scrapped.
