Delhi CM Swearing-In Ceremony: The first-time MLA from the Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency, Rekha Gupta on Thursday took oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. She was administered the oath of office by Lt Governor VK Saxena. With this, she becomes the fourth woman CM after BJP’s Sushma Swaraj, Congress’ Sheila Dikshit, and AAP’s Atishi. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a bevy of top BJP leaders along with Chief Ministers from different states of the ruling party including Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini at Ramlila Maidan.

BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ravinder Indraj Singh also took oath as ministers in CM Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Government. Ahead of her swearing-in ceremony today, Delhi CM designate Rekha Gupta said, “It is a miracle, it is a new motivation and a new chapter. If I can be the CM, this means ways are open for all the women. Anyone who has been corrupt will have to give an account of each and every rupee.”
CM Rekha Gupta and her husband Manish Gupta greeted Lt Governor VK Saxena at Ramlila Maidan. She also greeted the crowd with a ‘Namaste’ and thanked the residents of Delhi. As Ramlila Maidan buzzed with celebrations, wishes poured in from all corners for her. Supporters, leaders as well as well-wishers extended their congratulations, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Delhi’s political landscape.
Rekha, originally hailing from Haryana’s Jind, started her political career in the year 1992 with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. She later became the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in 1996-97. She is known for advocating issues of student during her tenure as DUSU President. As a councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, she worked on developing basic facilities in the area, such as libraries and parks. She has also pursued an LLB and is the founder of the NGO AAS.
