Bengaluru: The Southern Railway is planning to launch a new semi-high-gauge line that will reduce travel time from Bengaluru to Chennai by 2 hours. The cities will get the project in a few months, which will operate at a maximum speed of 200 kilometres per hour.

The train will contain 16 coaches and two executive-class coaches. The travel time between the two cities will be 2 hours and 15 minutes and will cover an approximately 350 km-long distance. The budget introduced by the Railway Minister is Rs 8.3 crore.

Southern Railway intends to rebuild the track so that trains can travel at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour. The improvement is planned to be finished this year.

The introduction of new train service is projected to make the Bengaluru-Chennai route one of India’s fastest.

The Vande Bharat Express is the fastest train on the Bengaluru-Chennai line, travelling at an average speed of 81 kmph and taking 4 hours and 25 minutes to complete.
