New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday announced that it would be mandatory for truck drivers to have an air-conditioned cabin in the near future. Gadkari, while addressing an auto industry event, said that he had signed a file before coming to the event.
The government has taken this decision to reduce the cost in the country’s logistics sector and the move will reduce the negative impact on the health of the drivers during long journeys and also prevent road accidents.
Trucks will have AC cabins from 2025
Truck drivers drive in harsh temperatures of 43/47 degrees. We must imagine the challenges they face. After becoming Transport Minister, I was keen to introduce AC cabins. But some people opposed it saying that the cost of trucks would increase. At present, I have signed the file. Now all truck cabins will be AC cabins.
Transport Minister also said that there is a shortage of drivers in India, as a result of which truck drivers work for 14-16 hours a day. Other countries have regulations regarding the number of hours a trucker can be on duty. Mandatory air conditioning in truck driver cabins by 2025.
