Rajasthan: Udaipur Police has set a powerful example in the rape case involving a French tourist. In a landmark display of prompt justice, the Police arrested the accused within 36 hours and filed a charge sheet in record 7 days. While the survivor has been given a hope for justice, the swift action by the Udaipur Police has gained widespread praise.
About French Tourist Rape Case
On June 23, a female tourist from France filed a complaint at the Badgaon police station, accusing Pushparaj Ojha, alias Siddharth of raping her. Shortly after the report was filed, the police started the investigation, and a case under Section 64 (1) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) 2023 was registered.
Police Arrest Accused Within 36 Hours
A police team formed under SP Yogesh Goyal took swift action in the matter and arrested the 29-year-old accused Siddharth from his Udaipur residence within 36 hours. The accused, a native of Borda village in Chittorgarh, was produced before the court and later remanded to judicial custody.
Charge Sheet Filed In 7 days
The investigation process was completed in just two days, and in exactly 7 days, on 2nd July, a charge sheet was filed in the court under sections 64 (1) and 87 of the BNS. Regarding the incident, SP Yogesh Goyal said, “Our priority is to complete the trial in this case as soon as possible and punish the accused under the judicial process.”
