Uttar Pradesh: A shocking incident unfolded at Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi where a woman allegedly committed suicide after being unable to observe Navratri rituals due to menstruation. According to reports, the woman, identified as 36-year-old Priyansha Soni, got her periods on 30th March, the first day of Navratri. She was immediately rushed to hospital after consuming poison but died while receiving treatment.
Reports revealed that Ms Soni was eagerly preparing for Navratri ahead the beginning of the nine-day festivities. A day before Chaitra Navratri began, she asked her husband Mukesh to bring the pooja essentials. Meanwhile, she made all necessary arrangements such as flowers, fruits, sweets, lamps, and grains, to worship the goddess Durga.
A Dejected Ms Soni Consumes Poison
Things took an unexpected turn on March 30, when she got her periods. A dejected Ms Soni later died by suicide after allegedly consumed poison. According to Mukesh, his wife had eagerly waited for Navratri since a year but couldn’t pray or fast because of menstruation. He was quoted as saying, “She was stressed about how everything would happen and who would pray.”
Her Husband Offers To Perform Navratri
Mukesh further mentioned that he tried explaining her that periods is a natural process and monthly occurrence. In fact, he offered to perform all Navratri rituals on her behalf, but she couldn’t accept it and was unhappy. After a while, when he left home for the second time, Ms Soni consumed poison. “She said, ‘I have made a mistake’,” Mr Soni added.
Ms Soni Rushed To Hospital Again
She was later discharged from hospital and was taken to her parents home. Her husband was hopeful that a change of place would lift her spirits. However, her condition deteriorated and she started throwing up around 2.30 am. She was rushed to the civil hospital but next day when her husband left to bring some juice returned, she was put on oxygen support and died within 15-20 minutes. After the tragic incident, now her husband and two daughters – Janvi (3) and Manvi (2) are left behind.
