Uttarakhand: A cloud burst in Uttarkashi’s Silai Band, along the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg, on Sunday (June 29, 2025) caused massive damage to an under-construction hotel site. Uttarakhand Police informed that 9 workers are still missing while 10 have been safely evacuated. 10-12 meter section of the highway has been washed away, added the officials. NDRF, and police are currently engaged in relief and rescue operations. Meanwhile, Uttarkashi DM Prashant Arya said that a rescue and search operation has been launched following the incident.

On the tragic incident, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “It has been reported that some workers are missing. Teams, including SDRF, NDRF, and others, have reached the site and are engaged in intensive relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the concerned authorities regarding this matter…”
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been sent to the construction site. The cloudburst triggered a flash flood due to intense downpour in the region. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has sounded an alert against torrential rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the state on Sunday and Monday.

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall in the hill state has caused major disruptions, including the blockage of the National Highway near Nandprayag and Bhaneropani. Authorities in Rudraprayag also restricted movement on the Sonprayag–Munkatiya road due to landslides and falling debris earlier this week.
