Mumbai 26/11 terror attack conspirator Tahawwur Rana is set to arrive in the National Capital on Thursday. The prosecution will be headed by Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan against Rana on behalf of NIA. Rana, A Pakistan origin terrorist has been extradited from the United States and a chartered plane left the US carrying Rana.
Who Is Dayan Krishnan?
Krishnan is one of the top criminal lawyers in the nation, and a senior advocate of the Supreme Court. He graduated in 1993 from India’s first national law school. It is believed he was part of the first batch of law school students, Can Foundation reports. Krishnan reportedly started his own practice in 1999, and weaved his way into high-profile cases pertaining to the 2001 Parliament attack and in the Kaveri River water dispute. He also worked with the Justice JS Verma Commission in 1999.
He was the special public prosecutor in the Delhi gang-rape and murder case from December 2012, as stated by canfoundation.in. He has previously represented the Centre, NIA, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was the CBI prosecutor in the alleged DDA scam.
Rana has been arrested under a number of sections like criminal conspiracy, waging war against the Government of India, murder, forgery, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Reports state that Rana will also be transferred to Mumbai. However, Mumbai Police has not received any official notification in that regard.On April 8, Rana was formally transferred to the NIA in California. The Central Government has named advocate Narender Mann as the Special Public Prosecutor for the 26/11 trial.
