Who Was Baba Siddique? Ex-Maharashtra Minister And NCP Leader Shot Dead In Mumbai

Siddique was elected as an MLA from the Bandra West Assembly constituency in 1999 while an active member of Congress and was re-elected in 2004 and 2009 for three consecutive terms.

Former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, Baba Siddique, was shot dead by three unidentified gunmen in Mumbai on Saturday. He breathed his last in a Mumbai hospital after succumbing to his injuries. Mumbai Police have reportedly arrested two suspects in the shooting case. The tragic incident took place outside his son and MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office, as per reports.

Baba Siddique’s Profile

Born on September 13, 1958, in Patna, Baba Siddique spent his childhood in Mumbai and joined the Congress party as a teenager in 1977.

Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he switched to Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party, marking a notable setback for the Congress.

Baba Siddique was born to Abdul Rahim Siddiqui and Razia Siddiqui. He married Shahzeen Siddiqui, and they have two children: Dr. Arshiya Siddiqui and Zeeshan Siddiqui (MLA and President of the Mumbai Youth Congress)

Education and Early Involvement
Siddique passed out from St. Ann’s High School, Mumbai, and pursued further studies at M.M.K. College. Soon, he became an active participant in the student movements and joined the Indian National Congress as a teenager in 1977.

Additionally, he served as President and Senior Vice President of several political organizations.
