Kerala's CM Vijayan opposes CAA, citing discrimination against Muslims. BJP-led government supports CAA's implementation. IUML plans to legally challenge the notification of CAA rules before the elections.

The BJP-led government under Narendra Modi has long advocated for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). With the issuance of the CAA rules, the Modi government is now able to proceed with granting Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014. This includes individuals belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities.

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has voiced its opposition to the Centre’s notification of rules for the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) before the Lok Sabha elections, labeling it as illegal. P K Kunhalikutty, the General Secretary of IUML, stated that they intend to challenge this action in court.
