On Thursday, CEO Deepinder Goyal informed shareholders in a letter that Zomato will soon be renamed Eternal Ltd., following approval from the company’s board.
Zomato’s decision to change its parent company’s name to ‘Eternal Ltd’ left social media users full of questions and memes, leading the company to clarify the move.
On Thursday, CEO Deepinder Goyal told shareholders in a letter that the company’s board has approved the name change. However, the food delivery service will still be called Zomato.
Many people on social media were confused about Zomato’s name change. To clear things up, Zomato posted on X, saying, “Guys, Eternal is just the parent company – the app will still be called Zomato,” followed by three crying emojis.

Zomato’s post was the response to a person on social media who asked: “Bhai, yeh Eternal kya hai? Zomato bandh kar diya kya? Mera refund pending hai!”
Zomato changed its name shortly after joining the BSE Sensex on December 23, which also marked its 17th anniversary. CEO Deepinder Goyal called it a proud moment, saying that being the first Indian tech startup on the Sensex comes with greater responsibility.

Eternal Ltd., will include four businesses – Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure. Once shareholders agree with the change, the company’s corporate website will move from zomato.com to eternal.com, and its stock ticker will change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL.
