According to Dr. Deepti, rising temperatures and humidity levels create a breeding ground for various skin problems, from dryness, oiliness, to acne and other serious fungal infections.

Secretion Of More Sebum

A shift in humidity levels during the monsoon season makes the skin secrete more sebum. This, in turn, results in clogged pores. Moreover, frequent sweating may cause breakouts and other fungal infections, particularly in areas such as the neck, underarms, or feet. Thus, people with sensitive or oily skin are advised to follow a preferred routine according to their skin type.

Nowadays, cloudy skies may partially or completely block the sunlight. The ultraviolet (UV) rays are so harmful that they can penetrate deep inside the body. Sunscreen also has to be chosen according to your skin type. Generally, people of all ages tend to avoid hydration during the monsoon season, which is very critical that you shouldn’t avoid.

How To Avoid Common Skin Issues During Heatwaves

Heat waves can cause many skin-related issues. “Nowadays, people of all ages are dealing with serious skin problems like dryness, red rashes, itching, and dull skin. To maintain healthy skin, avoid sun exposure, especially between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Drink plenty of water and eat fruits rich in water content. Use proper sunscreen and physical protection,” said Dr. Deepti.

Skincare Routine- Humid Monsoon Weather Vs Summer

Dr. Deepti advised maintaining proper hygiene to prevent fungal infections. “In humid weather, wear cotton clothes, stay hydrated, and avoid oily foods and excessive use of makeup products,” she added.

Is Sunscreen Harmful?

The UV rays can be very dangerous. Even in cloudy weather, your body is exposed to some destructive rays. Here, Dr. Deepti replied that “sunscreen when used according to skin type is always effective.”

Sweating During Heatwaves

We asked her whether frequent sweating during heatwaves can worsen acne or other skin conditions, to which she replied, “yes.” She recommended, “take less spicy, less oily foods. Avoid junk food. Excessive use of tea, coffee, and alcohol should be avoided. Take plenty of water and water-rich fruits and vegetables.”

Diet To Follow

Apart from your skincare routine, you should also make time to consume foods that help improve skin hydration and glow during extreme weather conditions. As a Senior Consultant Dermatologist, she advised to “include foods such as green vegetables like bottle gourd, sponge gourd and fruits like watermelon, muskmelon, and papaya during summer. Cucumbers are good for summer. Also, add yoghurt and coconut water in your daily diet.”

Monsoon And Summer Supplements

Nowadays, people of all ages are taking various supplements to maintain their body and skin health. We asked Dr. Deepti, what are those supplements that can be added for skin health in monsoon or summer? She advised to take “Vitamin C , E, zinc, probiotics, Vitamin D3 supplements”.

Water Intake

During hot and humid weather, it is important to keep your body hydrated all day long. She recommended that “at least 3 to 4 litres of water per day is ideal.”
