England management omits youngster Alice Capsey from the squad for the multi-format tour calling into question her recent development after her quite ordinary show at the T20 World Cup last month. The 18-year-old all-rounder, who had made her England debut at just 17, wasn’t quite up to mark in the tournament, with only 19 runs in three innings and just 27 runs in five innings for Melbourne Renegades in WBBL.

Paige Scholfield And Lauren Filer Selected For T20I Series

In contrast, while allrounder Paige Scholfield gets a slot in the T20I side after making her debut for England in Ireland last September, the fast bowler, Lauren Filer has been picked for all three squads touring South Africa exciting opportunity for the fast bowler to put her skills on the mat.

Dani Gibson, on the other hand, is missed, as she goes under the knife for a knee operation following an injury during the World Cup.

England’s Tour To South Africa: Huge Chance For Renewal

The England Women’s team will form part of the tour to South Africa, which the women’s team will use as the first opportunity to regroup since 2002. The team now looks forward to using the experience it gained in South Africa to try harder and perform better during the Women’s Ashes series scheduled to take place in Australia in January 2024.

Captain Heather Knight had been written off from the World Cup following a ligament injury but would, however, play in the Big Bash and skipper the side in all formats. Things are now ready to get interesting with this tour being a must-win for England in case they have to reset their ambitions after a disastrous exit from the T20 World Cup as one of the pre-tournament favorites.

Jon Lewis Defends England’s Physical Fitness Amid Criticism

England Women’s head coach Jon Lewis responds to criticism of the fitness level of the team, mostly from former World Cup-winning cricketer-turned-commentator Alex Hartley. After the World Cup, Hartley said that the team was unfit which Lewis opposed very strongly while defending his players’ preparation. As per Lewis, the fitness of the team is as per the needs of the individuals and the physical strength of the squad is going strong.

“I have seen the team training in Loughborough, and we are progressing across the board,” Lewis said. “We’re not an unfit cricket team. There are lots of different parts of physical fitness, and I don’t agree with the statement that was made.”

Women’s Ashes And Keys Takeaways From World Cup

The ECB’s deputy chair and former England captain Clare Connor has some other observations about what is awaiting the team after the World Cup, such as what their past scrutiny by the players says. That involved bringing in examples of how it was a disappointing result to an early exit from the World Cup, Connor said while encouraging that building resilience when under pressure and making smart decisions when things go bad is necessary.

“It is a really good next experience going to South Africa,” Connor said. “It is a multi-format tour so another opportunity for preparation, especially for the Women’s Ashes in Australia.”

England Squad Training Ahead Of South Africa Tour

Other players to have been named in England’s ODI tour to South Africa are training at Loughborough ahead of the tour. The tour starts on November 16, and the ODI and Test teams depart on November 27, in a series considered one of the key steps in restoring the team’s confidence and form ahead of the Ashes.
