Aus Vs Pak: Naseem Shah To Be Out? Pakistan Eye Key Changes For Must-Win Second T20I

After a hammering defeat against Australia in 1st T20I, Pakistan might take some hard decisions to change the playing 11 which also includes speedster Naseem Shah.

AUS vs PAK: After suffering a heavy 29-run defeat in the first T20I in Brisbane, Pakistan is gearing up for a crucial second match of the ongoing T20I series against Australia. Led by Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s performance in the opening encounter was far from ideal, with the Australians dominating the rain-affected match.

Despite a few bright spots, particularly from fast bowler Abbas Afridi, who picked up two key wickets and contributed a quick-fire 20* runs lower down the order, Pakistan’s overall performance was disappointing. With several prominent players failing to perform, the Rizwan-led team could make significant changes to their playing XI for the must-win second T20I at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Naseem Shah’s Chances Of Being Dropped?

Naseem Shah, the young and talented fast bowler, had a rough outing in the first T20I, conceding 37 runs in just two overs. His expensive spell was one of the key reasons behind Australia’s dominant 93-run blitz in seven overs. Given his underwhelming performance and the presence of in-form fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, as well as the impressive Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah might be left out for the second T20I.

Sydney’s conditions are expected to favor spin and batting, making it less likely that seam bowlers like Naseem will thrive. Therefore, Pakistan might opt to replace Naseem Shah with left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, who could prove to be more effective in the SCG’s conditions.

Haseebullah’s Position In Danger?

Pakistan made a strategic error in the first T20I by fitting too many openers into their playing XI. With Mohammad Rizwan and Sahibzada Farhan already filling the opening slots, there’s room for a middle-order batter to strengthen the lineup. One potential option is Omair Bin Yousuf, the top-scorer for Pakistan Shaheens in the Emerging Asia Cup.

In four matches, Yousuf scored 116 runs at an impressive strike rate of 136.47. Although he batted at number three in the Asia Cup, he is better suited for the pace and spin conditions in Australia than Haseebullah, who struggled in the opening match. As a result, Yousuf could be brought into the side to bolster Pakistan’s batting for the second T20I in Sydney.

Will Pakistan Make Bold Changes For The Second T20I?

With the second T20I being a must-win match for Pakistan, bold decisions are expected from the team management. The key changes might involve dropping Naseem Shah and Haseebullah to strengthen both the batting and bowling departments. The Sydney Cricket Ground promises to be a challenging venue, and Pakistan will need to adapt quickly if they are to level the series against a strong Australian side.

By making these tactical changes, Pakistan will hope to bounce back from their opening loss and keep their hopes alive in the series.
