Powerful Opening Partnership

The openers, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits laid a good foundation for South Africa, scoring 40 and 43 respectively. Aggressive beginning put up a good total with the Proteas scoring 60 runs without losing any wicket in the powerplay – the highest powerplay score of the tournament thus far.

Marizanne Kapp Shines

Chasing hard, Marizanne Kapp then added a fiery 43 off just 24 balls to crank up the scoring rate. Explosive for six boundaries, she is capable of finding the rope very frequently. Kapp played one shot too many, as Kathryn Bryce took Darcey Carter’s third wicket.

Scotland Managed To Stick Together At Times In Their Bowling As Scotland Batted On

Despite the intimidating total, Scotland did pretty well with bat and ball and in the field as well. Olivia Bell, Kathryn Bryce, Katherine Fraser, Rachel Slater, and Darcey Carter all chipped in with wickets against the deep South African batting order.

Important Wickets And South Africa’s Score

Wolvaardt’s promising start was brought to an untimely end when she was caught by Bell off Fraser, her knock coming to 40 runs. Then Carter struck with her first delivery, sending Anneke Bosch back for 11 runs. However, with 89 runs already on the board and more than nine overs in hand, the Proteas were well-placed to score big.

The best bowling from Marizanne Kapp frustrated the scoring for Tazmin Brits, missing a half-century by just a few runs as she fell to a miscued shot for 43. Chloe Tryon did not get any runs with the bat, and not much better for the Proteas was that it took just one delivery of the final over to get Annerie Dercksen on strike as she scored just 1. But Sune Luus blasted her way to 18* in six deliveries to help South Africa achieve the tournament’s biggest total of 166/5.

For Scotland, the debutants in the T20 World Cup, an incredible batting effort will be needed to chase this challenging target.
