New Delhi: India is hosting the world’s biggest chess tournament in Mamallapuram, Chennai. PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Chess Olympiad 2022 and now, the world has set eyes on the brilliant chess players from around the globe.

With 187 countries taking part with 188 Teams in the Open section and 162 in the Women’s section, the 44th Olympiad will witness the highest ever participation.

Powerhouses Russia and China will be missing out, and India will field three teams each in the Open and women’s sections respectively. The host countries can field two teams but India could field one additional team in both categories as the total number of teams was odd.

Chess Olympiad 2022: When, Where, & How to Watch!

Start Date: July 28, 2022
End Date: August 8, 2022

The Chess Olympiad 2022 will be live streamed on the YouTube channels of Chessbase India and FIDE.

During the inauguration of the tournament, India PM said that this will always be in the memory.

“This is the first time the chess olympiad is being held at the origin of chess in India, and it is coming to Asia for the first time in three decades. And this time, it has the highest number of countries, number of teams, and number of female chess players participating,” he said.
