Jurel’s resilient knock played a pivotal role in India’s remarkable fightback, reducing England’s first-innings lead to just 46 runs before India was dismissed for 307 runs at the stroke of lunch on the third day. Building on his debut Test performance in Rajkot, where he scored 46 runs, Jurel showcased his ability to handle pressure with ease, solidifying India’s search for a reliable wicketkeeper-batter.

After reaching his fifty from 96 balls, Jurel accelerated his scoring rate, taking on the English spinners Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley aggressively. Displaying supreme composure, he reached his maiden Test fifty with a single off Hartley. Additionally, he shared an entertaining 40-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Akash Deep.

Despite being dropped on 59 by Ollie Robinson, Jurel capitalized on the opportunity, hitting Bashir for consecutive boundaries before being dismissed by Hartley just shy of a well-deserved century with a quicker delivery.

England’s young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir also achieved a milestone, completing his maiden Test five-wicket haul by dismissing Akash Deep, finishing with figures of 5 for 119 in his second Test appearance.
