Pakistan’s Champions Trophy campaign was ended in a wet and undignified fashion on Thursday when their last group game against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was abandoned without a single delivery. The rain was spoilsport, rendering the surface waterlogged and denying any possibility of play. The game was in effect a nonstarter for both teams but Pakistan were looking to wrap their home tournament with something to smile about. Sadly, their dreams were ruined by the constant rain.
Pakistan Vs Bangladesh Match Washed Out Due To Persistent Rain
The weather was not good for the entire day, and the persistent rain made puddles of water on the ground surrounding the field. Even though covers were placed, things did not change, and after a delay of almost two hours, the umpires were left with no other option but to abandon the match. Not even the toss was possible under the rain.

Pakistan’s Unfortunate Record In The Tournament
The rain-out guaranteed that each team had a point apiece, but the outcome was a sour conclusion for Pakistan’s Champions Trophy campaign. Their elimination was a record low, as they became the first team in 23 years to be knocked out without winning a single match of the 50-over format. Having lost to India and New Zealand in their first-round games, Pakistan ended Group A bottom with a net run rate of -1.087.
Prize Pool And Financial Payouts
This year’s Champions Trophy also recorded a 53% increase in the prize money, and the total stood at $6.9 million. The teams that win the tournament will get $2.24 million, and the runner-up teams will get $1.12 million. The semifinalists who lose will take home $560,000 each.
