As Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down a target of 155 against Chennai Super Kings with confidence, a moment in the 16th over left everyone surprised. Kamindu Mendis, who was on 15, was given a golden chance when CSK’s Noor Ahmad overstepped, awarding a free hit. But instead of taking advantage, Mendis swung and missed at a wide, tossed-up delivery that spun sharply away. The uncommon dot ball off a free hit was the target of sarcastic applause by the Chennai spectators, but what ignited social media more was Kavya Maran’s over-reaction. TV cameras captured a glimpse of SRH’s co-owner who was seen visibly frustrated.

Kamindu Mendis Makes Amends
Even after that lost opportunity, Mendis made amends in no time. He was unbeaten on 32 off 22 balls and shared a vital partnership with young Nitish Kumar Reddy (19*) to take SRH to a five-wicket victory with eight deliveries remaining their third victory of the season.
SRH Defeats CSK On Home Ground
The actual foundation, though, was created by SRH bowlers much earlier in the match. Harshal Patel was the star with a brilliant 4/28 spell, making the best of his variations. Captain Pat Cummins supported him with a tight 2/21 within his quota, successfully dampening CSK’s scoring. The Super Kings were limited to 154, as only Dewald Brevis’s fiery 42 was the lone noteworthy contribution with the bat.
During the chase, Ishan Kishan offered initial momentum with a brisk 44, though CSK maintained the pressure by taking wickets at regular intervals. However, Mendis and Reddy were solid and didn’t let slip in late going as Hyderabad pulled off a deserved win.
