As the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season edges near, the attendance of Sri Lanka all-rounder Dasun Shanaka at the Delhi Capitals training camp has created speculation that he is likely to be Harry Brook’s replacement. The sighting by his side during some of their players visiting temples with him at an unknown event fueled the whispers.
Harry Brook Pulls Out For 2nd Consecutive Season
Brook, who was retained by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore, has pulled out of the tournament to be available for international duties. This is the second successive year that DC had purchased him, after his first signing of the batter for INR 4 crore before IPL 2024. Yet, Brook pulled out of that season due to personal issues after his grandmother’s demise. With the new IPL rules, his pullout now he has a two-year ban from the league.
Dasun Shanaka: The Replacement For Harry Brook?
In the meantime, Shanaka, who had earlier played the IPL with Gujarat Titans in 2023, might just fit into the open overseas position. His short IPL adventure saw him score 26 runs in three matches. Later, he played in the ILT20 2025 for Dubai Capitals, scoring 164 runs in 12 games.
Brook’s IPL career features a historic unbeaten century for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023. Yet, his campaign overall remained patchy, amassing 190 runs in 11 games at a strike rate of 123.37.
