IPL 2025: SRH’s swashbuckling batter Abhishek Sharma set the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 ablaze with one of the most stunning innings of the season, blasting a breathtaking 141 off 55 balls against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). The left-handed batsman’s innings was a perfect mix of raw strength and impeccable timing, with 14 boundaries and 10 huge sixes at a staggering strike rate of 256.36. It was the sort of innings which had fans on their feet and PBKS bowlers scratching their heads.
Entering the match, Abhishek had been unable to get his rhythm this season. On Saturday, everything fell into place. From the very first ball, he appeared to be in complete control, going after the bowlers with impunity and hitting the boundary with ease.
Reflecting on the match, Punjab’s spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi acknowledged that his team missed key chances that could’ve turned things around.
“Abhishek played very well, no question about that. But we also had some chances—there was a no-ball, and we dropped two,” Joshi said at the post-match press conference. “In T20 cricket, the game can turn on those seconds, and Abhishek took advantage of them today.”

Even when PBKS attempted to stage a comeback to the match, Abhishek’s onslaught was relentless. Not only did his performance give Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) a much-needed adrenaline boost to their campaign, but also put his name in IPL history.
Only 24 years old, Abhishek now has the record for the most runs ever scored by an Indian in the history of the IPL, surpassing KL Rahul’s 132* against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2020. His 141 is the third-highest by anyone in IPL history, after only the great Chris Gayle’s 175* and Brendon McCullum’s 158*.
He did not limit himself to one record either. Abhishek picked up 116 of his 141 runs off boundaries alone, shattering Jonny Bairstow’s SRH record (90) for runs in an inning picked up through boundaries. His 10 sixes also became a franchise record, shattering David Warner’s record of eight in an inning.
It was a display that would not be forgotten—an event that broke records not only but also offered SRH renewed optimism in IPL 2025. And for Abhishek Sharma, perhaps it is the beginning of something truly special.
