Jasprit Bumrah Opens Up About His Life Beyond Cricket, Says ‘Family Is More Important Than My Career’

In a conversation with former Australia captain Michael Clarke, Jasprit Bumrah reflected on maintaining a balance between personal and professional life.

Jasprit Bumrah is regarded as world’s top bowler for his performance across formats. At the age of 31 his is celebrated as one of the greatest bowlers of modern era, he is currently ranked as No.1 in the ICC Test bowling rankings and remains the backbone of India’s pace attack.

In a conversation with former Australia captain Michael Clarke, Bumrah reflected on maintaining a balance between personal and professional life. He shared that for him family always takes precedence over cricket and at home he isn’t treated like a special sports icon but a normal human being.

“For me, family is more important than my career because you know that is constant,” Bumrah said to Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.

“There are two things that I take seriously. One is my family, and one is my game, but family comes first,” Bumrah said.

“I have to give priority, and I do give priority because I will not be a cricketer all the time. For them, I’m not a cricketer. I’m a human being, and you know, being a young father, seeing my son, you know, he started picking up the ball and started playing with the ball, which is not advisable at this moment,” Bumrah said.

In IPL 2025, Bumrah has shown his excellence despite joining mid-season due to injury. He has claimed 18 wickets in 11 matches at an economy of 6.36. After the Indian Premier League continues he will be preparing for the England Tests but he is expected to feature in only three of five Tests for workload management.
