New Zealand pacer Matt Henry injured his shoulder while fielding in the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The mishap took place in the 29th over when the 33-year-old attempted a diving catch for a low ball off Heinrich Klaasen. While he managed to take the catch, Henry awkwardly fell on his right shoulder, and the physios immediately rushed to attend to him before he was compelled to leave the field.

Henry had bowled only seven overs until the injury and raised concerns for New Zealand leading into the highly crucial final on March 9 against India. Giving an indication of his fitness, captain Mitchell Santner confirmed that Henry had a sore shoulder and the management would keep him under observation over the next two or three days to determine the extent of the injury.

“Have to wait and see how Matt Henry’s shoulder is. It’s a bit sore, we have to wait for a couple of days and see,” Santner said in the post-match presentation.
Santner was impressed with the performance of his side as New Zealand overpowered South Africa by a convincing 50-run margin.

Temba Bavuma’s team fought a difficult game throughout, but David Miller fought a lone battle with an excellent century. His untroubled 100 kept South Africa going and saved what might have otherwise been a one-sided victory. But Santner was pleased with the way his players played and was hopeful that they would win the final.
